| Come sit down at Wizard The North East’s only two day music festival has announced a major UK act to headline its main stage on the first night of the event. Organisers of the Wizard Festival have invited music fans to come and “sit down” to hear the indie classic band James in their first appearance in the region since a sold out show at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre (AECC) two years ago. James, most famous for indie anthem “Sit down”, will play Wizard’s main stage on Friday August 27. The New Deer festival show will be only one of a handful of UK and European appearances by the band over the summer. Most famous for their hits of the 80’s and 90’s, James have made a big resurgence on the UK music scene in recent years, releasing a “mini” album called “The night before” in April this year. A whole host of top name music acts has been announced for Wizard Festival, which happens every year just outside the ancient village of New Deer, Aberdeenshire. James will be joining the Happy Mondays, Alabama 3, Complete Stone Roses and Peatbog Faeries, who have already been confirmed to play at the event. Now in its fourth year, Wizard attracts music fans from across Scotland and more than 4,000 people attended last year’s event. Also confirmed to play at this year’s event is up and coming Scots singing siren, Pearl and the Puppets. Songs penned by lead singer and songwriter Katie Sutherland, who hails from Kirkintilloch, are being used on advertising campaigns across the globe, and they are one of the music industry’s most talked about acts of 2010. The festival is being held on the August bank holiday weekend, 27 &28, and tickets are on sale from local outlets and via online ticket vendors. In an agreement with HMV music stores, tickets for Wizard are also available at HMV stores across Scotland. Roy Thain, Festival Director said: “Our confirmed acts so far this year reads like a who’s who of the Manchester music scene of the ‘90’s. We are really proud that we can continue bringing these top name acts to Wizard and we will be working hard over the next few months to make sure we can deliver our best music bill yet. Making sure that some of the newer, fresher acts like Pearl and the Puppets are booked shows how committed we are to providing a platform for up and coming talent as well as the older, more established acts.” A family friendly event, Wizard also runs a full two day children’s programme and has a dedicated arena, Wee Wizards, where families and young people can get involved in creative and musical activities and workshops. Made up of three stages, over 50 acts will appear at Wizard across two days in August. Held in the beautiful setting of the New Deer Showground, approximately 30 miles from Aberdeen, last year it added a full line up of DJ’s as well as local acts and arena performers to its bill. |
